LIHEAP Weatherization Assistance Program

What does the program do?
The Program is designed to help low-income customers control their energy costs through the installation of weatherization materials and consumer education.

Who benefits from the program?
All low-income families that are below the 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

What areas/counties are covered by this program?
 Brooks, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, and San Patricio Co.

When does a person qualify for the program?
At the time of the application, clients may be determined income eligible.

How does an individual enroll in the program?
Currently we have a waiting list, but call any of our offices in Hidalgo, Jim Wells, and San Patricio to be placed in the list.

Eligible Activities

  • Energy audit (a review of your home's energy efficiency, which identifies where air leaks may be occurring, inefficient appliances, etc.)
  • Installation of weatherization measures to increase energy efficiency of a home (structure must be able to benefit from being weatherized)
  • The weatherization work consists of caulking; weather-stripping; adding ceiling, wall, and floor insulation; patching holes in the building envelope; duct work, and tune-up, repair or replacement of energy inefficient heating and cooling systems.
  • The weatherization measures to be installed must meet specific energy-savings goals.
